An introduction to the archive collections
Tasglann nan Eilean manages the historical records of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and its predecessor bodies, as well as the archives of organisations and individuals which have been gifted or donated. The archive collections fall into four main categories:
- Education records such as log books, admission registers and school board records;
- Local government records relating to subjects such as the poor law, public health, housing and transport.
- Hospital and health records;
- Gifts and deposits which can include the records of businesses, estates or trusts, clubs and societies, churches, photographic collections and personal papers.
