About
North Lochs Historical Society was formed in 1988. The group meets in the Community Centre in Leurbost and its activities cover the communities of Ranish, Crossbost, Grimshader, Leurbost, Lochganvich and Achmore.
The Society publishes a quarterly magazine, Dusgadh, and has also published: a World War One and World War Two Roll of Honour, Balach a Griomsiader : tales and travels of a Lochie (by Donald Morrison); A’ Leantainn na mara : bàrdachd a sgrìobh a sgrìobh Dòmnhall Angaidh Macleoid (A’ Chang) à Ranais nan Loch (poetry of Donald Angus Macleod of Ranish and Glasgow); Laoich nan òran (Heroes of song : a collection of bardachd from North Lochs), a telephone and livestock earmark directory for the area, and local walks leaflets.
The society organises regular winter talks and summer walks as well as occasional exhibitions and ceilidhs.
