About

Back Historical Society in its current form was established in 2018. Its aim is to preserve and share all aspects of the history, culture and traditions of the Back area of the Isle of Lewis, including the settlements of Back, Coll, Upper Coll, Vatisker, and Gress. The Society does not currently have premises and is therefore not collecting physical archives at present. It does however collect information in relation to specific projects, and copies of photographs in digital format. The Society is also interested in old film of the district, which it can digitise.

Back Historical Society meets monthly to discuss projects and also organises local lectures and events in Gaelic and English. A historical society had previously existed from 1984 until the late 1990s.
