About

Barvas and Brue Historical Society was founded in 1995 and aims to promote an active interest in the history and culture of the Barvas and Brue area of the isle of Lewis (including Upper Barvas, Heatherhill, Monard, Lower Barvas, Park Barvas, Loch Street, and Brue). The Society publishes a quarterly newsletter, Fios a’ Bhaile.

The Society has also built a reconstruction of a sheiling hut which can be seen at Tom Mòr Urrahag, Isle of Lewis. This allows visitors to discover what such a hut would have been like. Information panels describe life on the sheiling during the summer months.
