Kinloch Historical Society was founded in 1983. The Society's aims are to promote, in the interests of social welfare and education, an active interest in the history, heritage and culture of the Kinloch area of the Isle of Lewis.

About
Kinloch Historical Society was founded in 1983. The Society’s aims are to promote the history, heritage and culture of the Kinloch area of the Isle of Lewis, including the settlements of Arivruaich, Balallan, Eishken, Laxay, Keose, Keose Glebe, Seaforth Head, and Soval. The Society is situated in Balallan old school which has been developed as a community hub offering a range of services, including a museum, an archive, a conference space and a café. The new facility opened in 2019. Displays include an impressive collection of military uniforms and militaria from the 19th century to the present day.
The Society also publishes books which are significant to the history of the Kinloch area including a comprehensive genealogical record dating from the 1790s, entitled Gleanings.
Collections
Kinloch Historical Society has contributed over 7500 records to Hebridean Connections with much of the Society’s genealogical data, archive material and artefacts having been digitised and made available through this community digital archive.
